Grade Calculator
Calculate your current weighted grade from any number of categories, or solve for the score you need on a remaining category to hit a target.

Quick answer
Your current grade is the weighted average of every category entered so far: each category's score multiplied by its weight, summed, then divided by the total weight of categories you have a score for. Leave exactly one category blank and enter a target overall grade, and the same formula solves in reverse for the score you need on it.
Results are estimates for general guidance only. Double-check any figure you rely on for an important decision.
About the Grade Calculator
Most courses weight different components (homework, quizzes, exams) differently rather than averaging every score equally. This calculator computes your current weighted grade from any number of categories, and can solve backwards for the score you need on a remaining category to hit a target overall grade.
Add or remove categories to match your actual syllabus, and enter the weight each one counts for. If your weights do not add up to 100%, the calculator still computes correctly: it normalises to whatever total weight the categories entered actually add up to.
Current grade = Σ(weight × score) ÷ Σ(weight), across categories with a score entered
To solve for a missing category's required score: neededScore = (target × totalWeight − Σ otherWeight × otherScore) ÷ missingWeight.
Why leaving the final blank is the useful move
Entering every category except the one still ahead of you (usually the final exam) turns the calculator into a "what do I need" solver. It reports the score that specific category needs to reach your target overall grade, given everything already locked in.
Two outcomes are worth reading literally rather than dismissing: a required score above 100% means the target is not reachable no matter what you score, and a required score below 0% means you have already secured that target regardless of the remaining category.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if my weights don't add up to 100%?
⌄
The calculator still works correctly: it divides by whatever the total weight of the categories with a score entered actually is, rather than assuming 100%. It is still worth double-checking your syllabus in case a category was missed.
Can I use this for a pass/fail or credit/no-credit course?
⌄
Only indirectly: enter the numeric percentage cutoff for a pass as your target, and the calculator will tell you the score needed to clear it, but it has no concept of pass/fail grading itself.
What does a "required score above 100%" mean?
⌄
It means the target overall grade is not achievable through that category alone, even with a perfect score: the earlier categories have already used up too much of the available weight below your target.
