This Privacy Policy explains how A2Z Calc (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use this website.
Information we collect
We do not require accounts and we never ask you for personal information. The values you type into calculators and converters are processed entirely in your browser, and we never send them anywhere.
One thing to be aware of: a calculator keeps your current numbers in the page address, so that “Copy link to this result” can share them. When a visit starts from such a link, those numbers are part of the address your browser requests, so they appear in our host’s server logs and in the page address Google Analytics records for that visit. Only numbers, option choices and ordinary dates or times are ever put in the address — never text you type, a birth date or a health-related date.
Two things are nevertheless collected automatically, as on almost any website:
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical information for every request: IP address, browser type and version, the page requested, and the date and time. This is used to deliver the site, diagnose faults and detect abuse.
- Cookies and similar technologies set by the third-party services described below.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website. We do not set any cookies of our own. The cookies present on this site are set by Google for analytics and, where advertising is shown, for ad delivery and measurement.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not stop the calculators or converters from working, since they run entirely in your browser and do not depend on cookies.
Your cookie choices
If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage is switched off until you choose otherwise, and we ask on your first visit. Elsewhere it is on by default and you can turn it off here at any time.
Your choice is recorded in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie and not on our servers, so clearing site data will reset it.
Advertising
We may display advertising through Google AdSense to fund the site.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at optout.aboutads.info.
Opting out stops advertising being personalised to you. It does not stop ads appearing.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are used and how visitors reach them. It sets cookies and collects your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser characteristics, and the pages you view. It also records a few interactions: that a calculator or converter was used, that a result, link or embed code was copied, that a page was printed, or that a related link was followed. These interaction records never include the numbers or text you enter. We use this only in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual visitors and we do not combine analytics data with anything else.
You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data entirely by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Third-party services
The currency converter fetches live exchange rates from a public third-party API (open.er-api.com) when you open that page. The request is made directly by your browser, which necessarily discloses your IP address to that service. We do not send it anything else, and we receive nothing back about you. No other page on the site contacts a third-party data source.
A small number of calculators can be embedded on other websites via an iframe. Embedded calculators load no analytics and no advertising. They run the same calculation as the full page with nothing added, and the "Third-party services" and "Advertising and cookies" sections above do not apply to them.
How Google handles the data it receives is described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, data protection law gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection in relation to personal data about you, and a right to complain to your national supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
Because we hold no accounts and store nothing on our servers that identifies you, most requests are best directed at the third parties above using the controls they provide. For anything else, contact us and we will help.
Data retention
We do not operate a database and retain no personal information ourselves. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for a short period for operational and security purposes. Retention of analytics and advertising data is governed by Google’s own policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when the wording last changed. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights above, contact us via the contact page.
